Library Card – Out of Context
Rotterdam four-piece Library Card are out with “Out of Context” on AT EASE. The band formed in the city in summer 2021 and comprises Lot van Teylingen on vocals, Mitchell Quitz on guitars and effects, Kat Kalkman on bass, and Emre Karayalçın on drums and percussion.
The song takes aim at corporate culture and the glorification of overwork. Van Teylingen frames it as a commentary on “capitalism in its purest form and the corporations that are demolishing our world”, with office-speak deployed as a kind of hollow gospel to expose the absurdity underneath. The band’s previous single was “Days of Clay”, a collaboration with Axender, released last October.
What I find satisfying is that the critique doesn’t drag the song down — the driving bass and post-punk energy give it enough momentum to work on the dancefloor as well as a soapbox, and the closing section is particularly strong. It earns the snark.
